Eclipspedition 2017 - Dixie Lookout

At 7590' elevation, this lookout should give us a panoramic view of the moon's shadow as it approaches at 1 mile every 2 seconds. It's 200 miles (3.7 hours) from the campground. Philip rejected that ideal because of the driving time. We depart from our base camp Sunday morning to stake out an overnight dispersed camping spot in the Malheur National Forest. Early on eclipse morning, we move up to the Dixie Lookout. After the eclipse, we linger there to allow traffic gridlock to subside before returning to base camp.
